Apparatus for cutting sheet material such as textiles in the manufacture of dress parts comprises a platform formed by a flexible band 7, Fig. 1, guided over two mutually parallel deflection elements 3, 4 mounted close to one another on either side of a cutting element 22, which is perpendicular, to the supporting surface of the band, and movable longitudinally, and over. another deflection element mounted therewith. The deflection elements are carried by a frame 1 movable perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of the elements, and carry the cutting element and the means for moving it. As described, the band 7 is supported by rollers 3-6 and 8-12 and the frame 1 carries rails 13-16 along which upper and lower slides 17, 18 may glide, and be driven by screw shafts 19 and 20, which are connected by a chain drive 21, Fig. 2. The wire saw 22 is guided over wheels 23-27, the wheel 25 being motor driven. In operation, a textile packet 36 is conveyed to the left half of the surface of the band 7 by movement of the band 7 in an anti-clockwise direction, after which the band is fixed. The band-knife or saw 22 is then moved through the packet. Movement of the saw is obtained by a shift of the frame 1 and a shift of the slides 17, 18 which form perpendicular co-ordinates of the saw movement. The frame may be moved by a screw shaft or chain, and the slides 17, 18 are shifted by shafts 19, 20. The shifts may be obtained by hand via a servo-motor, or by automatic coordinate control apparatus as in contour copying. Extra supports 28, 29, Fig. 3, are provided on the frame at the location of the saw, and presses 30, 31 to prevent the material laying itself in folds. In a further embodiment the rollers 3, 4 and supports 28, 29 are replaced by deflection elements 32, 33, Fig. 4.</p> |
