There are provided methods of making hockey sticks, the methods including (a) forming a laminate (10) comprising a plurality of layers each of which comprises composite material comprising fibers and resin; (b) bringing a metallic tip (11) into contact with a transverse edge of the laminate (10); and (c) curing the resin thereby bonding the plurality of layers to each other and bonding the metallic tip (11) to the transverse edge of the laminate (10). There are further provided hockey sticks made by these methods. In addition, there are provided hockey stick shafts which include a hollow laminate comprising composite material and at least one metallic layer (41).
