Fine particulate, aqueous polymer dispersions are prepared by radical emulsion polymerisation of ethylenically unsaturated monomers whereby 0.2-10 wt.% silane of formula (I) are copolymerised (w.r.t. total monomer amount). RSi(CH3)0-2(OR<1>)3-1 (I) R = CH2CR<2>-(CH2)0-1 or CH2=CR<2>CO2(CH2)1-3; R<1> = 3-12C alkyl, optionally substituted and containing -O-linkages; and R<2> = H, or CH3.
