<p>A coin mechanism 10 is provided with a magnetic rocker and latch system for preventing rotation of a coin mechanism intended for use with a magnetic coin when a non-magnetic coin is deposited, or for preventing rotation of a coin mechanism intended for use with a non-magnetic coin when a magnetic coin is deposited. A magnet 54 is lodged in arm 51 of a rocker 50 which is biased away from coin recess 42 in the coin conveyor 40. The attractive force of the magnet on a magnetic coin inserted into the coin recess overcomes a biasing force on the rocker arm, causing the rocker arm to move toward the coin. In a coin mechanism intended to accept a magnetic coin, this causes a latch 55 on the magnetized arm to retract from a recess 95 in rotatable latch plate 92, allowing the plate to rotate and thus allowing the mechanism to operate. In a coin mechanism intended to accept a non-magnetic coin, this causes a latch on an opposed arm of the rocker to engage in a further recess in the rotatable latch plate, preventing the plate from rotating, and thus preventing the mechanism from working. The latch plate 92 can be provided with two recesses and the rocker with a latch on each of two opposing arms, one arm to be filed off depending on the type of coin to be accepted. The coin mechanism may be used with apparatus dispensing merchandise or with parking meters.</p> |
