A label is formed from a film wherein the film includes a layer of a polypropylene polymer resin, the layer containing microvoids which have been formed by stretching a web containing the beta-form of polypropylene. Preferably a nucleating agent, such as an amide, is used to induce formation of the beta-form of polypropylene. The film may be stretched biaxially with an area stretch ratio of at least 15:1 so as to provide a label with a thickness of between 40 and 80Ám. The film may be provided with additional layers which impart various properties, eg. heat sealability, printability or gloss. The label formed using the beta-form of polypropylene exhibits reduced static cling when being unwound from a roll or destacked.
|
