PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a steering shaft which not only can absorb a large shock load applied to a steering wheel securely, but also can steer the wheels by operating the steering wheel, even after the shock is absorbed. SOLUTION: In this steering shaft 10 a core line 12 is connected to a holder 16 (a steering wheel) through a shearing pin 18. Around the core line 12, an orthogonal winding 20, a left direction winding 22A, and a right direction winding 22B are provided. The left direction winding 22A and the right direction winding 22B are connected and fixed to the holder 16. Between the orthogonal winding 20 around the core line 12, a shock absorbing member 26 is provided. When a shock load is applied to the steering wheel 36, the shock absorbing member 26 absorbs it by deforming itself. Furthermore, when the steering wheel 36 is operated in such a condition, the left direction winding 22A and the right direction winding 22B are wound closer to restore to the original condition, and the wheels can be steered. |
