The oil lamp has a porous diffuser (3) in the open upper end of its fuel container (1) to absorb fuel from the wick (2) as it passes through it. The upper end of the wick or the diffuser is covered by an insulating tube (4) to prevent the flame from spreading from the wick to the diffuser. The tube (4) can be made from a material such as glass, or the upper end of the diffuser can be coated with enamel, projecting 5 - 8 mm above the main body of the diffuser. The wick makes contact with the porous inner surface of the diffuser over alength of at least 10 mm to ensure a continuous and adequate impregnation with the perfume.
