N-acyl-hydroxyaminoacid ester derivatives of formula (I) are new: R1 = 5-50 alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl (optionally substituted by one or more OH); R2 = 1-49C alkyl or 2-49C alkenyl (optionally substituted by one or more OH); Y1, Y2 = H or OH; R3, R4 = H, 1-10C alkyl or 2-10C alkenyl; or R3+R4 = 1-3C alkylene (optionally substituted by 1-3C alkyl, 2-3C alkenyl or 1-3 OH); or R3, R4 + the intervening atoms = a 5-7 membered heterocycle. Also claimed are intermediates of formula (Y2)(R3)CH-CH(Y1)-CH(CO2R1)-NHR4 (IV) and (Y2)(R3)CH-CH(Y1)-CH(CO2R1)-N<+>H2R4 A<-> (IVa): A<-> = an anion. |
