The system includes at least two electro-optical transmission and reception terminals (1,2) for sending and receiving binary signals (TxD1,RxD1;TxD2,RxD2) in duplex mode via a first optical conductor (6). Transmission elements (7;9) and reception elements (8;10) are provided in each terminal. The information bits of the transmission signals consist of a pulse sequence (SP1,SP2) with a predefined pulse repetition rate. The rates are different for each terminal and each transmission and reception terminal contains a blanking circuit (13) which receives the signals from the receiving elements and which is controlled by the transmission pulses of the terminal to blank the pulses which are received synchronously with the transmission of pulses.
