The invention relates to a digital answering machine (1) which can receive fax information in addition to voice information through a telephone line (4, 5). In order to send and receive faxes using a computer (16), the inventive digital answering machine (1) temporarily stores incoming faxes in a memory (6) whereby said faxes can be transferred to the computer (16) via an interface (15) when the computer (16) is turned on.
