A dilation bougie for treating oesophageal strictures comprises a flexible silicone rubber tube (16) with an enclosed space extending proximally from a tapered distal tip (18) and filled with homogeneous material (28), pref. W particles in silicone fluid, so that the bougie is radio-opaque and sufficiently heavy to provide dilation. The particles are pref. 15-100mu in size and are present in an amount such that the material density is 9.5 g/cm3. The particles are pref. suspended in a mixture 45 wt.% liquid silicone rubber and 55% silicone fluid. |
