Förbättringar av, eller med avseende på, ATM-baserade transmissionssystem

The system transmits data packets between endpoint networks with different timing references. Each endpoint network has an encoder for packeting and multiplexing data and the generation of data packets for application to an ATM adaptive layer (AAL) and a decoder for demultiplexing and decoding received data packets. An AAL 1 on the decoder side detects cell losses and introduces dummy cells. The AAL 1 uses synchronous residual time stamp to effect dejittering. The dejittering uses SRTS information in the interface between the endpoint networks and for restamping the AAL 1 layer with SRTS information that is valid in a receiving network to effect end to end synchronisation without the need for a common network timing reference.
