PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately machine the front face shapes of a plurality of magnetic heads to have desired dimensions with a simple process, by forming the curved surface of each magnetic head in its sliding direction before base fixing and, after fixing that in the base, batch-finishing the thickness directions of the plurality of magnetic heads by a tape grinding or the like. SOLUTION: For the curved surfaces of magnetic heads 1 and 2 in the front face sliding direction S thereof, the head front faces are machined to be curved in a bar state of the gap coupling stage of a previous step, and then those are cut from the bar state as individual magnetic heads 1 and 2. The plurality of magnetic heads 1 and 2 having the curved surfaces machined in the sliding direction S are fixed in a rotating member 4, and then the curved surfaces Ts of the magnetic heads 1 and 2 are finish-ground en block with a tape or the like to be formed. Thus, without performing any pre-grinding step by complex temporary fixing, a desired rotary head device or magnetic head unit is provided. |
