DNA fragments containing a biotin biosynthetase gene originating in a microorganism belonging to the genus Sphingomonas; plasmids containing these DNA fragments; biotin-producing transformants containing these plasmids; and techniques for applying a gene originating in a microorganism belonging to the genus Sphingomonas and participating in the biosynthesis of biotin to genetic engineering breeding of biotin-producing microorganisms.
