Gas turbine engine with emergency bearing support

A ducted fan gas turbine engine is provided with a fan (12) which is carried by a shaft (16) . Frangible fuse pins (27) maintain the bearing (21) carrying the shaft coaxial with the engine longitudinal axis (15). In the event of severe fan damage, the fuse pins fracture and the shaft orbits about the axis (15). An annular resilient member (34) exerts a radially inward restoration force upon the shaft following such an event in order to reduce vibration. The member (34) may be formed from titanium alloy sheet material.
