PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing drugs, agrochemicals, etc., by isomerizing a 4-acyloxy-1-hydroxy-2-butene in the presence of a Re compound. SOLUTION: This compound of formula II is economically obtained in high yield and purity by isomerizing a 4-acyloxy-1-hydroxy-2-butene of formula I (R<1> is a saturated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon group, e.g. methyl, cyclopentyl or benzyl), e.g. 4-acetoxy-1-hydroxy-2-butene, in the presence of metallic Re or a Re compound, e.g. ReO2 , with the atomic Re concentration of 1-1,000ppm based on the reaction mixture preferably in an inert gas atmosphere, e.g. nitrogen at 0-250 deg.C. |
