PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an incubator capable of showing the elapsed time after the finish of a reaction. SOLUTION: This incubator has a means 8 for heating or cooling a sample, a control means 2 for keeping the sample at a reaction temperature and thereafter keeping the sample at a maintaining temperature lower than the reaction temperature, and further starting the subtraction of the time at the time point when the operation is started or the temperature of the sample reaches near the reaction temperature, and starting the addition of the time at the time point when the sample reaches the maintaining temperature after starting the subtraction, a time-displaying means 5 displaying the remaining time of the reaction before the finish of the reaction and an elapsed time from the finishing point or from the time point reaching the maintaining temperature after the finish of the reaction time.
