PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart antibacterial properties equal to that made of silver to hardware and furthermore to produce it at a low cost by dispersing silver atoms having specified concn. into the surface of hardware and regulating the thickness of the silver atom- dispersed layer into specified dimensions. SOLUTION: Siver atoms having 0.5 to 10,000ppm concn. are dispersed into the surface layer of hardware. The thickness of the silver atom-dispersed layer on the surface of the hardware is regulated to <=30μm. In the case the concn. of the silver atoms is not more 0.5ppm, the whole body of the surface of the hardware can not maintain antibacterial properties. In the case its concn. exceeds 10,000ppm, there occurs the fear that strength or corrosion resistance of the hardware changes. Even in the case the silver molecules are present at the deep part in which the distribution exceeds 30μm, its relation with the antibacterial properties in the surface of the hardware is small. For diffusing the silver atoms, silver, silver alloys or silver compounds are laminated on the surface of the hardware, which is heated or pressurized or simultaneously subjected to heating and pressurizing. The lamination of silver, silver alloys or silver compounds on the surface of the hardware is executed by a coating soln. applying method, a vapor depositing method, a CVD method, a sputtering device, a thermal spraying method, a plating method or the like.
