PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sustain a desired recovery performance by performing the recovery operation after an ink is jetted to the contact face of a head protection member with a recording head when the releasing time of the head protection member from the recording head is longer than a specified time thereby removing ink adhering to the contact face. SOLUTION: Upon receiving a replacement command of recording head 1, a carrier 2 is shifted from a waiting position (where the recording head 1 faces a head protection member 22) to a preset head replacing position and shifted back to the waiting position after the head is replaced. A decision is then made whether a time T when the head protection member 22 had been released from the recording head 1, stored in a memory, is longer than a preset time T1. If T>T1, ink is jetted from a recording head 1 to the contact face of the head protection member 22 with the recording head 1. Subsequently, recovery operation of the recording head 1 is effected by means of a recovery member 21. |
