<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the range of shape control substantially by adjusting the axial position of an intermediate roll in the direction to negate the shape change due to excess reduction when the rolling reduction of any of the split type backing bearings exceeds the range of shape control while rolling by a multipul roll mill. SOLUTION: When, while rolling, either of No.1 to No.4 or No.4 to No.7 of the supporting units (AS-U) 6 of backing bearings 5 exceeds the upper limit in reduction or the upper limit in releasing, based on a prearranged selection table of an intermediate roll, which of the upper and lower rolls No.1, No.2, 2, 3 is to be shifted or which direction of shift is to be taken is decided. Then, the amount of modification of rolling reduction of each of the backing bearing supporting units 6 required for negating the amount of shape charge of a rolling mill in the case of shift of an intermediate roll is decided by a prearranged pattern of negating motion. Based on this value, by operating the lateral adjusting mechanism of a No.1 intermediate shaft, either of the required No.1 and No.2 intermediate rolls 2, 3 is shifted.</p> |
