The headrest comprises a guide member (2) which is fitted in the backrest. A rotary element (3) is rotatably supported on the guide member. A bar (5) is slidably supported on the guide member and the rotary element and can be detached from them. A headrest body is fitted to the bar and can be moved from a vertical position (A) to a stowed away position (B) by turning the rotary element. A spring element (6) is connected between the guide member and the rotary element. A contact wall is formed on the guide member and can come into contact with the end of the bar if the headrest body is arranged in the stowed position. The rotary element comprises a pair of support sections (31), each having a passage hole through which the bar passes.
