The communication system includes a system memory for the storage of program modules and of data, and at least one system processor with an operating system for the processing of the program modules. The telephone number of an external interlocutor is made available at each arriving mediated call connection, and is temporarily stored within the system in the same manner as an off-going entered telephone number. A conversation time period which is determined through a certain start and end point in time, is registered at an out-going or incoming call connection, in response to a corresponding instruction entered by the subscriber. The registered conversation time period is assigned to the respectively currently existing telephone number of the interlocutor, and stored in a defined memory area, preferably the system memory. A fee, with which the interlocutor is charged for a produced service, is automatically determined from the stored conversation period and a stored, predetermined tariff for a unit. The fee is stored, and can be indicated or printed for the subscriber providing the service.
