The invention relates to a method for developing a wear resistant and high temperature resistant ceramic-metal composite material. To this end, a porous ceramic body is created by means of a targeted chemical reaction process. Said ceramic body has all functional properties important for wear resistance but in itself has only little mechanical strength. By introducing and then reacting it with a liquid metal, said body is transformed into a homogeneous, dense ceramic-metal composite material. The aim of the invention was to develop a new material, in particular for brakes. Owing to its properties this material is suitable for use in any area where high temperatures and high wear occur.
