A sliding clasp for closing and opening a fastener of the kind disclosed in Specification 1137052 and which comprises two co-operating members secured to attaching tapes each member being made from a metal blank provided with a plurality of spaced transverse slots, each blank being bent to define a longitudinally extending ridge, the cross section of the ridge being that of an open loop with a neck portion, whereby for closing the fastener the ridge of one member is pressed into the ridge of the other member through its neck portion, thus engaging the ridges one inside the other, comprises a body 14 which nowhere extends below the lower surface of either member and a tab 17 for pulling it in either direction, the body having a longitudinally extending groove 15 which includes in its front end portion at one side thereof a slot 23 which slants both transversely and longitudinally towards the centre of the body and which serves to guide the free edge portion of the outer member so that the neck portion of the ridge is widened in the front end portion of the groove, the cross section of the groove changing gradually from that of the front end portion to that of the rear end portion, which corresponds to that of the ridge of the outer member when in the closed position, and a tongue 21 having an upper surface which defines the lower wall of said slanting slot and acts to compress the neck portion of the inner member to reduce the width of its ridge, whereby upon moving the clasp in the closing direction the inner member is pushed into the ridge of the outer member through the widened neck portion, and whereby upon moving the clasp in the opening direction the tongue raises by means of its slanting upper surface the ridge of the outer member away from the ridge of the inner member so that the members are separated. The upper wall of the slot 23 merges with the lower surface of the body at about half the length of the body and it is from this position that the cross .section of the enlarged front portion changes to the cross section of the rear end portion. The tongue is either an integral part of body or is made as a separate part of the body. |
