The method involves guiding the displacement of the panel in a working plane (P) under the engraving tool which is fixed in this plane. The method includes a main stage involving moving the panel in the work plane with the movement guided by guide rails (MG) to form an inscription to be engraved. The method uses a tool (2) and a reference table (11) on which is guided the panel support in the work plane. the table can have actuators to move the panel.
