PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method with which time required for checking out a vending action related to merchandise too small to attach a readable bar code label is shortened and a lot of such merchandise can be prevented from being purchased more than needed. SOLUTION: Concerning this system for acquiring the price of merchandise too small to attach the readable bar code label, this system is provided with a camera 18 for recording the image of a merchandise 22 and data processing means 15 and 16 connected to the camera 18 for identifying the merchandise 22 from this image and acquiring the price of the merchandise 22 from a price look-up file 36.
