OUTDOOR RANGE FINDER

A range finder for measuring a distance with a low power laser even outdoors. The range finder comprises a laser emitting means (101) which emits a pulse laser beam toward an object, an image reading means (105, 106) which takes in the image of the object synchronously with the emission and stop of the laser beam, a means (107) which detects "the minimum value of the differential image" between the images which are read by a plurality of emissions and stops of the laser beam, a means (108, 110) which determines a binary threshold from the minimum value of the differential image, and a means (114) which converts the minimum value of the differential image to binary data and detects the position where the laser beam is received.
