FIELD: manufacture of refrigerators, thermal pumps and engines. SUBSTANCE: machine is provided with spool valve 17 fitted in holes of end walls 48. Walls are provided with passages and spool valve 17 has distributing ports 40 at level of passages. Working chambers 33 and 34 are communicated with passages which may be brought in communication with chamber 41 and 42 of regenerator 36 through ports only at definite angles of turn of spool valve 17. When working chambers 34 are filled with gas flowing through tubes of heater (expansion process), gas is forced out of chambers 33 to one of chambers of regenerator, past heater. Regulation is effected by means of spool valve 17 with aid of ports and passages. Cooling system receives lesser amount of thermal energy. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 4 cl, 13 dwgn
