The controller has an oil-pressure control for controlling an engagement transition oil pressure which is fed to frictional coupling elements so that a parameter changed by a speed change varies along the locus of a predefined target value. An engine torque controller controls a torque variation parameter during a speed change to optimize the characteristic of a parameter changing in parallel with the speed. An oil pressure correction device corrects the transition oil pressure based on the torque change parameter and an engine torque correction device corrects the torque change parameter based on the transition oil pressure during control of the torque change parameter.
