ELECTRO-OPTICAL APPARATUS HAVING ANTIFERRODIELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTAL PANEL

An antiferrodielectric liquid crystal display in which a means by which the luminance of pixels in continuous ON (bright) states and pixels in continuous OFF (dark) states can be kept uncharged is provided so as to prevent image sticking and realize a high display quality. The luminance levels of the pixels are saturated and stabilized by an ageing process to eliminate a white floating phenomenon. For the purpose, the base luminance, i.e., the luminance of all the pixels which are required to enable a uniform display performance on the liquid display panel when a voltage is not applied, is made a reference level. Further, the temperature change of the liquid crystal panel is eliminated and the luminance level is stabilized to eliminate a white sinking phenomenon. Moreover, a means by which the reference process is repeated automatically or manually is provided.
