PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a flame-retardant compsn. which gives a molded item which has a long afterglow time, does not emits a halogen gas, hardly generates smoke, and is safe by compounding a synthetic resin which exhibits specified oxygen index and smoke concn. and from which a halogen gas is not detected with a luminous coating material which does not contain a radioactive substance. SOLUTION: A synthetic resin which exhibits an oxygen index of 30 or higher and a smoke concn. of Ds 100 or lower and from which a halogen gas is not detected is compounded with a luminous coating material which does not contain a radioactive substance. Pref. 100 pts.wt. synthetic resin is compounded with at least 10 pts.wt. luminous coating material. Examples of the resin are a polyetheretherketone, a polyarylate, and a polyetherimide. The radioactive coating material is exemplified by a phosphorescent phosphor based on a mother crystal comprising a compd. represented by the formula: MAl2 O4 (wherein M is at least one element selected from among Ca, Sr, and Ba), such as a compd. represented by SrAl2 O4 , CaAl2 O4 , BaAl2 O4 , and Srx Ca1-x Al2 O4 . |
