PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduced the cloggings of inner and outer faces of a suction block and extend the operation time by bringing a slot surface into contact with an edge guide and feeding a flashing liquid in a manner of encircling a coating composition to be taken out. SOLUTION: A suction slot 16 is formed on a suction block 18 disposed closely to a substrate 12 to be coated, and an edge guide 11 is brought into contact with a vertical face 19 of the suction block 18. For the purpose of dispensing an edge guide flashing liquid and encircling sections on which a coating liquid is shut off, the flashing liquid is brought into contact with both of the faces of a blade 15 and the block 16 in the wet state, and the vertical face 19 of the suction block 18 is brought into contact with the flashed edge guide 11 to be wetted. A channel 20 is formed all over from a wetting contact area on the vertical face 19 to the slot face 21 and the blade face 15 to carry the flashing liquid and encircle the coating liquid shut off by the blade 15.
