PURPOSE: To obtain a skin cosmetic composition containing a carboxyvinyl polymer and anα-hydroxy acid in a specific ratio, low in irritation and excellent in stability at a high temperature. CONSTITUTION: This skin cosmetic composition contains (A) a carboxyvinyl polymer in an amount of 1-2wt.% based on the whole amount of the composition and (B) anα-hydroxy acid in an amount of 3-12wt.% in a (A)/(B) weight ratio of 1/6 to 1/1, preferably 1/5 to 1/2, and has a pH of 4-9. Theα-hydroxy acid is preferably lactic acid. The composition is suitably compounded with known components and subsequently prepared into a cosmetic such as a pack or a gel.
