A waste water aeration treatment basin has air introduced at its bottom by a grid work of air-supply pipes (3, 4, 5) resting horizontally on the bottom (2) of the basin. The novelty is that: (a) the grid of pipes (3, 4, 5) can be raised by a winch (14, 19), rotating the grid from the horizontal to the vertical position at the side of the basin; (b) the grid may then be lifted vertically clear of the basin (1) for inspection and repair as necessary; (c) in the aeration operating position air is delivered to the grid by a rigid, vertical supply pipe (11) joined to the grid by an articulated pipe linkage (13); (d) the ventilation grid (3, 4, 5) is attached to a swivel-frame (6, 7, 10) attached to main spars (8, 9) in turn linked to the hinge (13).
