A generator and lighting assembly is provided for use on a mechanism, such as a power driven tool, having a rotary shaft during use. The assembly includes a rotor assembly (122) having a rotor shaft (102) affixed to the mechanism shaft, and a permanent magnet (132) supported on the rotor shaft for rotation therewith. A stator assembly (124) includes a body presenting a pair of electrically conductive arms extending on opposite sides of the rotor and an electrically conductive shank connecting the arms together, and a winding of electrically conductive wire supported on the body and presenting a pair of opposed ends. The assembly includes a lamp assembly (128) and a light emitting diode (LED) embedded in a solid transparent bulb formed of a synthetic resin. Electrical conductors connect the ends of the winding to the LED to form a circuit for supplying current to the LED upon rotation of the rotor magnet (132) within the stator assembly (124).
