An acoustic duct silencer (10, 64, 68) is disclosed having opposed sidewall baffles (20, 21) which are disposed in a duct (12) such that a cavity (30) is defined between the baffles (20, 21) and the adjacent duct sidewalls (14, 15), the space between the baffles bordering a passageway (32) in the duct for the flow of a fluid medium therethrough. Each baffle (20, 21) features an array of generally parallel spaced-apart elongate slots (38) which substantially span the vertical or horizontal breadth of the baffles. The baffles preferably have relatively large effective thickness so that the slots (38) formed therein have a significant depth to them. In this manner, an integral array of resonators are provided having a significant slot or throat depth for the attenuation of low frequency sound.
|
