PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful for an electrophotographic photoreceptor excellent in photosensitivity, durability and environmental characteristics. SOLUTION: This dihydroxysilicon phthalocyanine is in a monoclinic system, has lattice constant of a=12.8±12.1Å, b=12.5±1Å, c=6.8±1Åandβ=94.4±1, has peaks at Bragg angle 2θ(±0.3 deg.) of 9.2, 14.1, 15.3, 19.7 and 27.1 in X-ray diffraction spectrum. The compound is obtained by heating 1,3-diiminoisoindoline or phthalodinitrile and silicon tetrachloride in a solvent to give a dichlorosilicon phthalocyanine compound and heating the compound in the presence of water in a polar solvent such as N-methylpyrrolidone. An electrophotographic photoreceptor using the compound as a photosetting layer is effective especially for printer, facsimile and copying machine.
