The 6v or 12v bulb holds an elongate high-power (10w +) front filament (G) and a small low-power rear filament (D). Light from the latter is reflected in a narrow beam by the rear section (E) of the dual purpose reflector, whose much larger front section (F) provides a diffuse beam, on the same axis, from the front filament. Batteries in the torch body energise the filaments through a 2-position switch either the small filament only, or both together. The torch base has magnetised contacts, presenting a central disc and outer annulus, conforming to similar contacts on an external charger.
