A dispenser is designed to dispense capsules or pills to a patient up to four times a day for a week. The dispenser is loaded by a trained member of the medical staff, who fills a series of compartments in a drum with each day's medication. During operation the drum is rotated by a step-by-step motor and the required medication is dropped at the appropriate time into a drawer accessible to the patient. At the same time a sound alarm gives a signal to indicate that it is time to take the medication.
