PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a liquid crystal display device which has a wide field angle, responds fast, and prevents display defects such as sticking and a flicker. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device is provided with a 1st substrate 1 and a 2nd substrate 2 which have their opposite surfaces sectioned into 1st areas 18 where liquid molecules are vertically oriented and 2nd areas 19 wherein liquid crystal molecules 17 are horizontally oriented so that a 1st area 18 and a 2nd area 19 face each other and a liquid crystal layer 3 which is sandwiched between the 1st substrate 1 and 2nd substrate 2.
