PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a device from becoming complex by setting the read starting and ending positions of a sensor by the driver circuit of a two-dimen sional solid sensor and a multiplexer for reading. SOLUTION: A driver circuit 6 for driving a two-dimensional solid sensor 1 is controlled by a timing control circuit 18, is switched between up/down and down/up directions, and can be driven from a halfway arbitrary line. Analog multiplexers 2--5 at the output side of the two-dimensional solid sensor 1 are switched and controlled by a timing control circuit 18 and data can be read from the left/right, right/left, or halfway line. The output of the analog multiplexers 2-5 is supplied to a digital multiplexer 15 that is controlled by a timing control circuit 18 through A/D converters 7-10 and FIFO memories 11-14, thus enabling a reading order to be changed and hence forming an image according to the reading direction of the image and eliminating the need for changing a special image direction at a host side.
