A protective undergarment (10) having an outer shell (12) of fluid resistant material, and a fluid containment sling (14) of fluid resistant material connected to the inner surface (12) of the shell, and adapted to receive and retain fluid absorbent pad (19). The ends (8, 9) of the shell are folded in to establish frontal and rear bumpers (12A, 12B). One end (32) of the sling (14) is folded under the frontal bumper (12A) to form a pocket (16) that is attached to and hidden beneath the frontal bumper (12A), and remains open to receive one end of the fluid absorbent pad (19). The other end (14A, 14B) of the sling (14) is attached to the rear bumper (12B). This construction accommodates a pad (19) of greater length for improved absorption without increasing the length of the shell (12). Methods of constructing protective undergarments with unique hidden pocket slings and fasteners are described.
