The present invention relates to an arrangement for transporting data relating to the operation of a switch, especially an ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) switch, which data relates to the operation of said switch between the different units logically associated with said switch, and in order to implement a better utilization of the ATM cells, the present invention suggests that said arrangement comprises a driver means adapted to consider relevant operational data as a continuous stream of bytes, an access means for accessing said stream of data through an appropriate buffer memory, especially one or more FIFO buffer memories, said access means being adapted for allowing data units to fill up every ATM cell, for thereby transporting as much operational data as possible in each ATM cell.
