[Also in Division F2] A loose ball check valve has an outlet 38 and a pair of inlets 22, 23 each formed with a seat of the same diameter. An elastomeric ball 33 is of such a diameter that the seat subtends an angle between 80 and 130 degrees at the centre of the ball when it is seated and has a diameter between 1À1 and 1À6 times the diameter of the seat. The ball is guided between seats by internal casing projections 35 and surface 39 which between them form an arcuate ball race. The valve casing is formed by side walls 11 welded to arcuate top wall 12 carrying outlet fitting 13 and is bolted by flanges 17 to an inlet structure formed of welded triangular sides 19 and plates 20, 21 supporting inlet fittings 22, 23. The interior of the casing is lined with an elastomer. In a modification wherein more than two inlets are provided and the number of balls is at the most one less than the number of inlets the balls are guided in an arcuate path about the outlet axis from one seat to another by upper and lower internal conical guides and frustoconical side walls.</p> |
