ACETIC ACID SELECTIVELY ASSIMILATING BACTERIUM AND ACETIC ACID SENSOR USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain both the subject bacterium belonging to the genus Enterobacter, capable of assimilating acetic acid but not propionic acid, useful for managing and controlling an acid formation process in an anaerobic waste water treatment and an acetic acid sensor. SOLUTION: For example, an acetic acid medium containing 0.5% of sodium acetate, 0.67% of yeast nitrogen base(YNB) (1.5% of agar in the case of a flat plate) and pH6.8 is used for screening an acetic acid assimilating bacterium from soil. The bacterium screened from soil is repeatedly collected and cultured in an acetic acid medium. Then the collected and cultured solution is inoculated into a flat plate medium of the acetic acid medium and a colony grown on the flat plate is collected. Then the collected bacterium is inoculated into an acetic acid medium (sodium acetate-containing medium) and a propionic acid flat plate medium (sodium propionate-containing medium), a colony grown only in one medium is taken as a selectively grown strain to collect an acetic acid selectively assimilating bacterium. Further a strain showing high respiration activity in the case of using acetic acid as a substrate is selected.
