1,189,860. Pressure-sensitive adhesive coating. PPG INDUSTRIES, Inc. 29 June, 1967 [14 July, 1966], No. 30059/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] Vinyl sheet materials are coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive comprising A) an interpolymer component derived from a) 30 to 100%, based on the total weight of a) and b), of at least one alkyl acrylate in which the alkyl group has a linear carbon chain of 4 to 12 carbon atoms, b) 70 to 0% of one or more other monomers devoid of active hydrogen atoms and c) at least one monomer containing a functional group having an active hydrogen atom, said functional monomer being present in an amount sufficient to provide from 0.005 to 0.210 equivalents of said functional group per 100 grams of the interpolymer component and B) an organic polyisocyanate in an amount sufficient to provide 0.01 to 1.0 equivalent of isocyanato groups per equivalent of said functional group in the interpolymer. The adhesive is applied to the material in solution in an organic solvent or as a film, either a free film coated on release paper or as a coated sheet or tape in which the adhesive is an adherent dried film. The coating is preferably dried at an elevated temperature.
|
