PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute automatically initial filling operation and to fill ink in a recording head in a manner that allows it to execute printing by moving the recording head on which no cartridge is mounted to the ink cartridge replacement position when the mounting of the ink cartridge is not detected when the power is turned on. SOLUTION: When the power switch is turned on, a sequence selection means 45 judges whether at least either of a black ink cartridge 7 or a color ink cartridge 8 is mounted on the basis of signals from an ink cartridge replacement judgment means 33. If the answer is yes, the amount of remaining ink is checked on the basis of data of a remaining ink quantity detection means 41. If it is decided that ink has exhausted, a carriage 11 at the home position is moved to a printing area by a carriage control means 36, and the ink cartridge 8 loaded on the non-printing area of the carriage 11 is moved to a position facing a window formed in the non-printing area of the body of a case, and the ink cartridge is replaced. |
