A high frequency transformer (10) has a primary winding (11) comprising a hollow spiral refrigerant for the transmission of the cooling fluid through the same, and a secondary winding (12) comprising a plurality of thermally joined spiral conductors to the first winding (11) using adhesive (31). The secondary winding (12) can also be comprised of a hollow spiral refrigerant for the transmission of a cooling fluid through the same. The present invention uses a hybrid concept wherein the cooling liquid is only used in one or two spirals of the primary and/or secondary windings (11, 12) of the transformer (10). For any transformer (10) winding, the remaining spirals of any particular winding are thermally joined to the refrigerant spiral, one directly and the rest in an indirect way. The liquid cooled refrigerant spiral can be connected in series with a high frequency winding of normal design, without any harmful effect on the losses or electric recovery for both windings, the primary and the secondary (11, 12). The present invention also can also be used in the construction of an inductive coupling probe for an electric vehicle battery charger. |
