PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable aromatic solvent-containing aqueous wastewater to be treated at low cost, in a relatively short time, and efficiently by treating the aromatic solvent-containing aqueous wastewater by sing bacteria having aromatic solvent-decomposing capability under coexistence of activated carbon. SOLUTION: Aromatic solvent-containing wastewater discharged from a coating plant and the like is treated by using bacteria having aromatic solvent- decomposing capability under coexistence of activated carbon. Benzene, toluene and/or xylene are preferably used for the aromatic solvents and pseudomonas bacteria, preferably pseudomonas N-NT-1 species or pseudomonas N-NT-2 species, are used for the bacteria. Such a wastewater practically is treated so that the adsorbed aromatic solvent is allowed to be decomposed by the bacteria by introducing activated carbon into a coating booth pin thank and the like containing aqueous wastewater to adsorb aromatic solvent, and then by adding culture solution and the like including a strain of bacteria having aromatic solvent-decomposing capability and by aeration. |
