1,201,863. Yarn, testing yarn. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP. 3 April, 1968 [3 May, 1967], No. 16037/68. Headings D1W and D1F. A colourable yarn comprises at least two polyamide filaments each differing from each other by at least 12 m. equiv. of terminal amine-end groups per kg. of polymer; the yarn having 8 to 20 crimps per inch, an entanglement of at least 25 entanglements per metre and a twist of 0.001 to 2 turns per inch. Preferably the polyamide filaments differ from each other by at least 18 m. equiv. of amine-end groups. The yarn may comprise a major proportion of polyamide filaments and a minor proportion of polypropylene, polyester or polyamide-polyester, polyacrylic, rayon, rayon acetate or polynosic filaments. The filaments may contain specified additives. The filaments can be crimped in a stuffer box or a fluid jet. The yarns can be knitted or woven into a fabric. Entanglement in the yarn is determined by hanging the yarn vertically under tension, inserting a weighted hook into the yarn and lowering the hook until it is supported by the yarn and measuring the distance travelled by the hook. The mean travel determines the degree of entanglement.
